A smart city is an urban area that uses different types of electronic data collection sensors to supply information which is used to manage assets and resources efficiently (Source: Wikipedia).
A lot of data needs to be collected and structured for smart cities. This is only possible with a technology providing higher speed and larger capacity compared with the previous technologies. For this purpose, there is a need of 5G or something new even after 5G (Source: www.researchgate.net). 5G networks needs high capacity fiber broadband infrastructure.
Why is there a need for smart cities?
– 65% of the world’s population is expected to live in urban areas in 2050.
– Top 500 smart cities are expected to generate over 50% of the global GDP.
– Frost & Sullivan expects Smart Cities to be a $1.5 trillion market by 2020.
